The Village of Skokie is accepting applications for the position of full-time Fire Prevention Specialist – Inspector / Public Educator. This position performs essential tasks related to Community Risk Reduction; Continually reviews commercial development and new construction plans for applicable code compliance; Inspects and reviews adequacy and effectiveness of fire protection equipment and systems in new and existing construction, ensuring life safety requirements are met; Conducts final fire safety Certificate of Occupancy inspections; Conducts final fire prevention system tests for newly installed systems; Presents educational programs to Skokie residents of all ages; Reviews architectural drawings for fire prevention system installation and recommends necessary system upgrades; Observes underground chemical and petroleum storage tank installation and removal; Performs other related duties as assigned.
High School diploma or equivalent required; Current Certified Illinois Fire Inspectors Fire Prevention Officer AND National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Fire Inspector Level 1 and/or International Code Council (ICC) equivalent certifications required; Valid Driver’s License; Demonstrated comprehensive fire prevention experience or equivalent experience required; College-level coursework in fire protection and code enforcement preferred; NFPA and/or (ICC) Certified Fire Plan Examiner to include Life-safety/Fire Alarm/Sprinkler System Plan Review is beneficial; ImageTrend Record Management System (RMS) Inspection Module knowledge preferred; Computer generated pre-plan drawing experience desired; Excellent interpersonal communication skills; Must be proficient with basic office technology.
Annual Salary Range: $70,167 - $89,582 (DOQ)
